Adhesion tests using liquid plastics

In the case of unknown or problematic substrates, an adhesion test should be carried out before commencing the refurbishment work. To do this, a selection of the suitable Primers (depending on the substrate: Universal Primer 2K, Universal Primer 933 or Primer P-O) applied to a clean, dry area of the surface; once dry, Enkopur with a Polyflex fleece insert is then applied (allowing approx. 10 cm of the fleece insert to protrude freely). After a curing period of at least 3 days at 15–20 °C (longer at lower temperatures), the adhesion strength is tested and assessed by peeling the sample off by hand.
On some substrates, the final adhesion strength may only develop after a few days. Peeling the sample off too early could therefore lead to incorrect results. The sample must be fully cured before the peel strength test is carried out.
When carrying out the test, it should be noted that the peel force achievable when peeling by hand is significantly higher than the adhesion strength required for a functional waterproofing system. It is therefore not necessary for the sample to be peelable from the substrate only by destroying the waterproofing.
If a distinct resistance is felt when peeling off the fully cured sample, this is generally entirely sufficient for a proper waterproofing.
Should sufficient adhesion not be achieved, we recommend that you contact us or send us a sample of the relevant roofing membrane or sheet so that adhesion tests can be carried out in our laboratory under precisely controlled conditions. You will receive

the results in writing upon request.
