Product information

Bitumen Primer is a solvent-based, fast-drying bitumen Primer. Developed for use on dry mineral or bituminous substrates, it offers excellent adhesion, consolidates porous surfaces and evenly incorporates fine particles of dirt. Ideal as a cost-effective preparation for further waterproofing or protective measures, and also suitable as corrosion protection on trapezoidal sheet metal or sheet metal roofs.

Note:

Not suitable for surfaces permanently exposed to the elements without a further Coating. Not a substitute for waterproofing – to be used as a Primer only.

Reliable in use:
Versatile bitumen primer – strong adhesion and quick application

Bitumen primer impresses with its ease of application, reliable adhesion and versatility. Particularly on roofs or when refurbishing sheet metal and concrete surfaces, it provides a solid Basis for subsequent waterproofing systems – even on slightly weathered substrates.

Advantages at a glance:

  • Ensures reliable adhesion – an ideal base for bitumen membranes or Enke waterproofing systems
  • Dust-binding & consolidating – even on porous or chalky substrates
  • Quick-drying – allows for rapid further processing
  • Good coverage – black colour allows for visual inspection during application
  • Corrosion protection – can also be used on trapezoidal sheet metal and metal surfaces
  • Versatile – suitable for concrete, masonry, timber, cement screed, metal and much more
  • Can be combined with Enke systems – ideal as a primer before applying Enkolit or Enkopur (depending on the application)

Frequently Asked Questions

The bitumen primer is a solvent-based, quick-drying bitumen solution for preparing substrates and refreshing bituminous surfaces. It is used on concrete, bituminous membranes, fibre cement and metal roofs to improve the adhesion of subsequent coatings, consolidate porous substrates and bind firmly adhering dirt residues into the surface.

A bitumen primer is particularly suitable when:

  • old bitumen roof surfaces that are still in good overall condition are to be refurbished,
  • a cost-effective refurbishment is required without complete dismantling,
  • trapezoidal sheet metal requires additional corrosion protection.

It is a classic construction site primer for robust, dry substrates in outdoor areas.

The substrate must be dry, as the bitumen Primer is highly hydrophobic.
For sheet metal substrates, the following applies:

  • Application should only take place at temperatures of +5 °C or above,
  • the surface must be free of hoar frost,
  • any existing corrosion must be removed mechanically beforehand.

Damp or wet substrates lead to adhesion problems and are not suitable.

Apply using a solvent-resistant roller or a brush.

  • Flash-off time: approx. 60–90 minutes, depending on weather conditions
  • Coverage: approx. 200–400 g/m², depending on the substrate and absorbency

The aim is to achieve an even, uniform finish without streaks or puddles.

The bitumen primer is:

  • flammable
  • harmful if inhaled
  • significantly hazardous to water (WGK 2)

The following are required:

  • good ventilation
  • protective gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing
  • strictly keep away from sources of ignition

Entry into the sewerage system, soil or watercourses must be avoided at all costs. The instructions in the safety data sheet are binding.
