Bitumen Stop
The reliable barrier layer against plasticiser migration

Product information

Bitumenstop is a high-quality, pigmented barrier primer designed to create a separation between bituminous substrates and subsequent waterproofing or coatings. This single component material reliably prevents the migration of plasticisers and bituminous components – a common cause of discolouration, embrittlement or loss of adhesion.

Particularly when renovating older roof surfaces, balconies or flat roofs that have been waterproofed with bituminous membranes, Bitumenstop protects subsequent systems such as Enkopur or Enkolan from undesirable interactions with the substrate. This special primer can be easily rolled on or brushed on and dries quickly – ensuring maximum reliability and long-term system compatibility.

Safety Data Sheet

Note:

Not suitable for non-absorbent, dense surfaces such as glazed metal or glazed tiles – use other bonding agents in these cases.

Bituemstop product benefits:
Isolate, protect, secure – with system compatibility

Bitumenstop offers the ideal solution when new waterproofing or coating systems are to be applied over old bituminous membranes. The barrier layer prevents interactions between the old and new systems – reliably, simply and permanently.

Key benefits at a glance:

  • Prevents plasticiser migration
Protects subsequent layers from bitumen constituents and migration
  • Prevents discolouration and loss of adhesion
Ideal for use under light-coloured or sensitive Coats
  • System-compatible with Enkopur & Enkolan
Approved component in the Enke system structure
  • Quick-drying
Can be worked over after a short time
  • Pigmented & opaque
Ensures visual inspection and complete coverage

  • Easy to apply – can be brushed, rolled or sprayed – no special tools required
  • Ideal for refurbishment
Particularly suitable for old bituminous membranes or bituminous Primers

Frequently Asked Questions

Enke Bitumenstop is a pigmented barrier primer that acts as a separating and protective layer between bituminous substrates and subsequent waterproofing or coatings. It reliably prevents the migration of plasticisers from bitumen, which can otherwise lead to discolouration, embrittlement or loss of adhesion – particularly in the case of Liquid plastic.

Bitumenstop should always be used when:

  • older bituminous membranes or existing bituminous substrates are present,
  • Enkopur, Enkolan or Betoncoat systems are to be applied over them,
  • or, in the case of refurbishments, the age of the bitumen is unclear or its composition is unknown.

Particularly in existing buildings, Bitumenstop provides reliable protection against subsequent damage to the system.

Bitumenstop is suitable for absorbent bituminous substrates, e.g.:

  • bituminous membranes
  • bituminous coatings
  • existing bituminous structures

Bitumenstop is not suitable for non-absorbent, impermeable substrates such as glazed metal or glazed tiles. In such cases, other bonding agents from the Enke system should be used.

Bitumenstop is a single component product and ready for use. It is applied by rolling or brushing; under suitable conditions, it can also be sprayed.

  • Application temperature: +5 °C to +35 °C
  • Drying time: dust-dry after approx. 30–60 minutes
  • Can be worked over: after approx. 1–2 hours

Coverage is approx. 150–250 g/m², depending on absorbency and the substrate’s texture.

Once completely dry, Bitumenstop can be overlaid with the following Enke systems:

  • Enkopur (liquid polymer waterproofing)
  • Enkolan
  • Betoncoat systems (depending on requirements and construction)

Bitumenstop ensures a permanent, system-compatible separation between the existing substrate and the new coating.
