Enkolan® Primer OS
Adhesion promoter for the Enkolan surface protection system
Product information
Enkolan Primer OS is the first step in a long-lasting surface protection system. Specially formulated to work with Enkolan Coats, it ensures optimum adhesion to mineral substrates such as concrete, cement screed or sandstone, even under challenging renovation conditions. Thanks to its soivent free, odourless and single-component formulation, the primer is also suitable for sensitive indoor and outdoor areas.
A solid foundation for surfaces that can withstand long-term wear and tear
Benefits of Enkolan Primer OS
As the first step in the Enkolan surface protection system, Enkolan Primer OS ensures an optimal bond between the substrate and the Coating. It not only provides adhesion, but also safeguards the system in the long term. Particularly with mineral substrates such as concrete or cement screed, a reliable primer is the key to a stable, long-lasting system.
Advantages of Enkolan Primer OS at a glance:
- Soivent free & odourless – ideal for indoor areas such as care homes, schools or hospitals
- Fast-drying – can be recoated after approx. 30–60 minutes (depending on weather conditions)
- Reliable adhesion to mineral substrates – e.g. concrete, screed or sandstone
- Easy to apply – can be applied with a roller or brush
- Increases the system’s durability – improves system adhesion and minimises application risks
The result: a clean and stable base for all subsequent layers in the Enkolan system.
Enkolan Primer OS is a soivent free bonding primer for mineral substrates within the Enkolan surface protection system.
It is used on concrete, cement screeds, sandstone and similar mineral surfaces to ensure the adhesion of the Enkolan Coating.
Important:
Enkolan Primer OS must only be used with Enkolan products and must not be combined with Enkopur – this is not in accordance with the system and is not permitted.
Yes. Sanding the still-fresh Enkolan OS primer with kiln-dried quartz sand (0.7–1.2 mm) is an integral part of the system.
It serves several purposes:
- it improves the mechanical adhesion of the subsequent Coating
- compensates for minor irregularities
- enables a clean transition to adjacent waterproofing
The recommended consumption is approx. 1 kg/m² of quartz sand.
In summer conditions, the primer is dry after approx. 30–60 minutes and can be overcoated with the Enkolan Coating.
There is no fixed time window for recoating:
if the surface is coated at a later stage, no further priming is required provided the surface has remained clean.
If the surface is soiled, it simply needs to be cleaned; there is no need to reapply the primer.
The substrate must be:
- be dry, clean and sound
- be free from cement residue, dust, oil and release agents
- have a residual moisture content of ≤ 6% by weight
Loose particles must be removed mechanically. Defects such as voids or pockets of gravel must be levelled out beforehand.
For unknown or critical substrates, an adhesion test is strongly recommended.
Enkolan Primer OS is not classified as a hazardous substance, but it contains silane-based components which may trigger allergic reactions.
Therefore, the following applies:
- Wear gloves and eye protection
- Ensure good ventilation
- Store in a cool, dry and frost-free place, in the original sealed container
Containers that have been completely emptied can be sent for KBS recycling; any liquid residues must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
