Enkolan Terrace 2021
New patio design: permanently waterproof and anti-slip
If a terrace is to become a real haven of well-being, it’s not just about how it looks. What matters most is a surface that remains watertight over the long term, is safe to walk on and requires minimal maintenance in everyday life. In this project from summer 2021, an old concrete slab was transformed into a high-quality, redesigned terrace area. The installation was carried out using the Enkolan system, including chips and transparent sealing. The result is fully coated, permanently protected and visibly enhanced.

From preparation to Sealing
First, the old covering was removed. The concrete surface was then ground down and levelled using a scratch coating of Enke Betoncoat 2K Primer and kiln-dried quartz sand. This created a flat, load-bearing base for the subsequent layers.
The surface was then waterproofed using Enkolan 1K LF. Enke Polyflex fleece was incorporated into the system for reinforcement. This allowed the waterproofing to be applied seamlessly across the entire surface and ensured that door thresholds and skirting areas were securely integrated.
Once fully cured, the Enkolan coating was applied. A mixture of chips was generously scattered over the entire surface of the fresh adhesive layer. Once dry, the excess was swept away, the surface was smoothened and then permanently protected with the transparent Enkolan sealing product. The result was a continuously coated terrace surface with a decorative, slip-resistant finish and high suitability for everyday use.
The project was supervised by Enke’s field service technician, Arno Schlemmer. It was carried out by master tinsmith Michael Zerzer.
Enke products used

Enke Polyflex fleece is a flexible, tear-resistant polyester needle-punched fleece designed for embedding in Liquid plastics. Ideal for secure waterproofing of joints, penetrations and detail points – on roofs, balconies and terraces.
