Enke Betoncoat in the living and kitchen areas
A new look for old tiles

If old tiles no longer look right, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to rip everything up. With the Enke Betoncoat System, an old ceramic floor covering can be transformed into a modern, hard-wearing surface without the need for demolition and with minimal build-up height. This is exactly how it was done in the living and kitchen areas of a detached house. The new floor quickly proved its worth thanks to its subtle joint pattern, high-quality appearance and suitability for everyday use.

From the old floor covering to a seamless surface – step by step towards a new floor
with a systematic approach and high standards

Sanding the tile surface

To begin with, the existing ceramic tiles were sanded down. This creates a textured surface that improves the bond between the subsequent layers. The existing flooring is retained in its entirety and continues to serve as a load-bearing substrate.

Polished tile surface

After grinding, the surface is evenly roughened. The joints are visibly recessed, which is ideal for the subsequent levelling process. This creates a clean Basis for the rest of the system to be built upon.

Scratch coating, fully applied

In the next step, the surface was levelled using a scratch coating of Enke Betoncoat 2K Primer and quartz sand. Joints and uneven areas are smoothed out, and the surface is sealed and primed at the same time. The surface is now ready for Coating.

Betoncoat PUR Coating

The Betoncoat PUR coating was then spread evenly using a notched trowel. This layer forms the durable base of the new floor and, even at this stage, gives it a very uniform, high-quality appearance.

Applying the Betoncoat 1K sealing product

Once the surface had dried completely, the coloured 1K Betoncoat sealing product in RAL 7040 was applied using a foam roller. It provides lasting protection for the surface against abrasion, moisture and normal household wear and tear, and defines the final surface finish.

The final result!

The result is a modern, seamless-looking floor with a silk-matt finish that is easy to maintain and suitable for everyday use. The room appears brighter, more serene and, overall, of a higher quality – all without any demolition, long construction periods or unnecessary building site disruption.
