On the upper floor, a large hall connects several classrooms and is also used as a sports hall when required. The existing wooden floor was loosely laid and produced disruptive noises when walked on. In addition, the toilet blocks, which had plasterboard partition walls, were in need of refurbishment. The requirement was for a seamless system that could be installed quickly whilst also providing a durable, attractive finish.

First, the floors and walls were prepared with Betoncoat 2K primer. This creates a dust-free, adhesive Basis, is virtually odourless and dries quickly. To prevent mixing errors, the material was transferred to another container after mixing to ensure uniform curing.

Once dry, the Betoncoat PUR coating was applied evenly using a trowel or squeegee and de-aerated with a spiked roller. Spiked shoes allowed the area to be walked on during application without damaging the surface.

For the design, the 2K Aqua sealing agent was used as an adhesive layer, into which Enketop chips were scattered at regular intervals. To ensure a consistent appearance, the same person was responsible for distributing the chips in each room. In the toilet facilities, the plasterboard walls were also coated with 1K Light Grey sealing, again with a chip finish. The project was completed with a transparent top coat of 2K Aqua, which provides long-lasting protection for the floors and walls.
