Enkopur, Enkryl and Enkolit in Russia
Roof renovations at minus 42 degrees and in the summer heat

Russia puts waterproofing to the test. Scorching summer heat gives way to long winters with temperatures plunging to as low as minus 42 degrees. Two renovation projects demonstrate how reliably Enke systems perform even under these conditions. A listed palace in Moscow and a sports arena near Verkhnyaya Pishma have been permanently restored using Enkopur, Enkryl, Polyflex fleece and Enkolit.

Roof waterproofing in extreme climates

In the centre of Moscow, a multi-winged 17th-century palace was renovated in the summer of 2004 and is now used as a library. The roofs required a waterproofing solution that could withstand long-term stress and cope reliably with temperature fluctuations. The Enkopur system was installed over a length of more than 700 metres, combined with Enke Polyflex fleece and Primer 933. By the following winter, temperatures had already dropped to a low of minus 42 degrees. The waterproofing remained undamaged, confirming the durability of the system solution.

A second project was carried out in Verkhnyaya Pishma, near Yekaterinburg. There, the roof of a sports arena had been severely damaged by snow and cold. Around 7,000 square metres of roof area were fully repaired between July and October 2005 by a trained specialist firm. Enkryl and Enke Polyflex fleece were used for the waterproofing. Enkolit was used to permanently bond the sheet metal flashings to the roof edges. A follow-up inspection the following year showed that all surfaces were in perfect condition even after the harsh winter.

Both case studies clearly demonstrate that Enke’s liquid-applied waterproofing systems enable safe and sustainable roof renovations even in extreme climates, despite complex details and significant temperature fluctuations.
