Roof waterproofing on a listed building
The Wilhelm Marx House in Düsseldorf was Germany’s first office tower block, completed in 1924. Today, the 57-metre-high building is a listed monument and has undergone extensive refurbishment. The roof area, measuring around 400 m², was also fitted with a new, secure waterproofing system. Due to the numerous detailed connections, varying substrates and confined space, Enke liquid plastics were chosen. Enkopur and Enkryl offered the necessary flexibility to securely integrate the connections and provide long-term protection for the roof surface.

The roof refurbishment was anything but routine. Numerous penetrations had to be reliably waterproofed, including vents, wall penetrations, balustrade posts, cable ducts and T-profiles. At the same time, the substrates varied between metal, concrete and old roofing membranes. Furthermore, numerous technical installations made working conditions more difficult, as there was very little space left for materials, access routes and carrying out the work.
For the specialist roofing firm Hinz und Winkler from Hilden, it was therefore clear that a conventional waterproofing solution would not be practical here. Instead, Enke liquid plastics were used. Enkryl and Enkopur were easy to apply even under difficult conditions and ensured a secure bond on a variety of substrates. The system really came into its own, particularly with the numerous detailed connections, ensuring a durable and reliable roof waterproofing solution.
