Enkryl and Enkopur in Tenerife
Roof refurbishment at the Hotel Los Hibiscos using the Enke System

More than 7,000 m² of roof area, severe weather conditions and waterproofing that had been virtually ineffective for years. After more than 30 years, the Hotel Los Hibiscos on Tenerife was suffering from severe water ingress. The solution came in the form of a tailored Enke system comprising Enkryl and Enkopur. From the on-site assessment to the installation on the building site, the project was supported by the Enke field service team. The result is a durable, UV-resistant waterproofing system that also reduces the building’s heat gain.

The situation was clear. The roof area, covering around 7,000 m², consisted essentially of just a coat of paint and a decorative lava-effect covering. As rainfall increased, this was no longer sufficient and water began to seep in. Enke was called in and assessed the condition of the surfaces directly on site. To ensure that no further deliveries would be required on the island, some 1,300 km away, the material requirements were calculated precisely and delivered in full in containers.

Following preparation and briefing, work began with the cleaning and repair of the details. This included reprofiling the fire walls and replacing drains and cable penetrations. Enke Universal Primer 933 was then applied.

The main waterproofing was carried out in two stages. First, Enkryl was applied and Enke Polyflex fleece was laid in for reinforcement. This was followed by a top coat of Enkopur in white. The result was an elastic, permanently watertight and UV-resistant waterproofing system. The additional benefit is evident during operation: the light-coloured surface reflects sunlight so effectively that the building heats up less. As a result, the air-conditioning systems run less frequently, the lava fill is no longer required, and the operator saves energy and costs in the long term.
