Enkopur and Enkryl at the Stuttgart TV Tower
Waterproofing at a height of 150 metres
The refurbishment of the Stuttgart TV Tower took place in a location where every move had to be precise. Around 150 metres above ground level, in an exposed position and involving complex details. The platform, steps and the steel substructure supporting the railings had clearly deteriorated. A solution was sought that would be durable, cost-effective and ensure the safety of the materials, even in the face of wind, weather and confined spaces. The waterproofing was carried out using Enkopur, Enkryl and Enke Polyflex fleece, just in time for the 50th anniversary.

The waterproofing requirements were demanding. Components at this altitude are constantly exposed to the elements, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations. At the same time, the joints are difficult to access and working space is limited. The decision was made to use a combination of Enkryl and Enkopur with a reinforcing Enke Polyflex fleece insert. The system is vapour-permeable, permanently flexible and UV-resistant, making it particularly suitable for highly stressed components and complex detail connections.
The work required precise planning and careful execution. The team worked in extremely confined spaces and under changing weather conditions. Enke technician Klaus Stern aptly summed up the unique situation: ‘The project was under scrutiny from architectural, technical and historical perspectives and had to be carried out with the utmost precision. Thanks to the Enke systems, a permanently safe solution was achieved even at a height of 150 metres.’
The television tower is now once again in very good condition. The refurbishment demonstrates that even striking structures and significant architectural monuments can be protected economically and reliably using modern Liquid plastics.
