Germany’s first afterglow shop floor by Enke
When a floor covering is required not only to be functional but also to create a certain atmosphere, HiLite floors offer a unique solution. At the Afew Store in Düsseldorf, Enke installed Germany’s first afterglow retail floor. The result combines design, light and material to create a spatial experience that makes an impact during the day and remains visible in the dark.

Layout, appearance and lighting effects in the shop
On Oststraße in Düsseldorf, the Afew Store has deliberately opted for a bold design statement. The managing directors, Andreas and Marco Biergen, wanted to design their trainers and art shop as an experiential space. After visiting the Enke exhibition in Langenfeld, they chose HiLite floors and work began shortly afterwards.
First, the existing tiled floor was sanded down to create a load-bearing, adhesive-compatible surface. This was followed by the application of HiLite 2K white primer, which served both to level the surface and as a light-reflecting Basis. The HiLite floors luminescent layer was then applied. It absorbs energy from daylight or artificial lighting and releases the light over a prolonged period in the dark.
As it dried, a vibrant, iridescent finish developed, reminiscent of freshly mopped tiles. The owners were so impressed by this look that the surface was left exactly as it was. The luminescent effect is particularly striking when combined with the shop’s lighting system. This allows the floor to be specifically charged, ensuring the luminous effect remains visible for hours.
