Highlight: Playground with permanently waterproofed ‘Red Tips’
In the heart of Thuringia, a playground has been created that is far more than just a place to let off steam. The town of Altenburg has had its famous landmark, the ‘Rote Spitzen’, recreated as a spectacular climbing structure. To ensure that the striking towers not only look good but are also permanently protected, the Enkopur liquid polymer system was used for the waterproofing. Ideal for complex details, reliable in application and perfectly suited to the structure’s appearance.

Reliable waterproofing for a play structure with high performance requirements
As part of an urban development project in Altenburg, five flagship playgrounds are being created, each with a unique design and offering a high quality of experience. In the second project, near the water tower, the concept was implemented with particular consistency: the ‘Rote Spitzen’ (Red Spires) were recreated as a play structure almost ten metres high. The structure, weighing around four tonnes, was built by Holzwelten Heilemann and forms the visual and recreational centrepiece of the site.
A particular challenge was waterproofing the two twin towers. A solution was required that would remain permanently watertight, adapt to the structure and, at the same time, be durable and safe in day-to-day use. The choice fell on Enkopur, the liquid waterproofing system from Enke. The system was installed by Dachdeckermeister Hendel GmbH & Co. KG, which has been using Enkopur regularly for many years for demanding detailed waterproofing work.
As well as protection, aesthetics also played an important role. During application, quartz sand was deliberately sprinkled onto the surface to create texture and ensure the appearance blended harmoniously with the landmark’s design. The result is a solution that combines function and design, demonstrating how waterproofing technology can make a visible contribution even to extraordinary projects.
