Wind tunnels are usually associated with the aerodynamics of cars or aeroplanes. In this case, however, the focus was on something else that is crucial for roofs: wind suction protection for parapet coverings. The focus was on Enkolit, Enke’s cold-applied sheet metal adhesive, which has proven its worth in practice for many years. A recent independent report now provides additional, reliable evidence from wind tunnel tests conducted under realistic conditions. The result confirms what many roofing professionals know from experience: Enkolit can be relied upon even in the face of strong wind suction.

Titanium-zinc outer corner tested under realistic wind suction loads
For the test series, a typical outer corner made of 0.7 mm titanium-zinc was replicated. It was fixed using Enkolit to a wooden substructure approximately 500 mm high. The test model was mounted on a turntable, enabling different wind directions to be simulated in a targeted manner. Artificial smoke, lighting units and sensors made the flow behaviour visible and enabled a precise evaluation of the loads.
The tests demonstrate the high resilience of the bonded joint and, at the same time, provide insights into wind suction protection that are of interest beyond the specific installation. This establishes a solid foundation that may also prove relevant for future technical assessments and regulatory frameworks.
